Christmas Eve Traditions

What are your Christmas Eve traditions? My family and I used to each pick one Christmas story from our collection and read it out loud. We usually had the same ones, but our favorites were The Polar Express (which came with a bell) and The Little Crooked Christmas Tree by Michael Cutting. We’d put out cookies for Santa, and drink egg nog and hot apple cidar. Our traditions have changed a bit over the years as our family gets bigger, and we get older. Other than eating the cookies ourselves and adding rum to our eggnog & cidar, we’ve added people too. We have a nice family...

Anti-Santa Parenting Techniques

As a follow up to my “do your kids believe in Santa Claus post” (which you can access by clicking the red link at the bottom) I found there are a lot more parents out there that are AGAINST it. I would expect some to not enforce it, but to be against it? What is with the Anti-Santa parenting techniques lately? I don’t agree with it. I am always one to say every parent is different, and so is every child. But really? Why not?! This whole idea that you’re lying to your children is crazy to me. But I promise you, unless you have some weird medical issue with your nipple or milk ducts – it will work with a little bit of patience. For me… I found that first, I had to remember not to get frustrated. I...

Are Your Kids Still Believers in Santa Claus?

I think we can all remember when we finally figured out Santa wasn’t real. And if not, then you remember the day you finally told your parents they can stop pretending now. How old were you? Although it probably varies quite a bit, I’d say age 7, or the second grade, seems to be the average that people can recall. I think believing in Santa Claus is a great thing for kids! It makes it all so exciting for them. And I think for parents too! From writing Santa letters and mailing him a list, to waking up Christmas morning to know that this mysterious man who loves to give gifts to...

Christmas Ornament & Decoration Crafts for Children

Happy Friday Everyone! I thought it was fitting to do a post on making ornament crafts for your tree or around your house. The easiest ones of course are the ones that you make for your windows, walls or fridge. These can be cut out and can be snow flakes, santa’s, reindeer, presents, stars, ornaments balls, candy canes, etc. Some very basic ways to make decorations are with pipecleaners. Make a candy cane by taking a red, white and pink pipecleaner, and twise, or braid them together. This can be hung on your tree, or you can make an arrangement of them by putting them together in a...
